DuneEsque- Display Type: A Custom Typeface

Objective: Design a futuristic sans-serif 'Display-Type' typeface that expresses an organic feel--inspired by the title font of Denis Villeneuve's 2021 movie Dune. 


Approach: Create each glyph from variations and segmentations of two primary elements -- a straight line "|" and a "U" shape. Punctuation (e.g., period, comma, etc.) mimics an inverted solid-fill "U" form; at a large scale, the period resembles a mound of balled dough sitting on a flat surface.

Perspective: 80s Alternative Music

Undeniably, we all recognize that musicians desire not only to produce music, but (so often, and longingly) aspire to become ‘ rock stars .’ Right!? First, we gotta clarify that “ rock ’ star” means any musical artist, post-50s “rock ' n ' roll” revolution, with aspirations of appealing to the ‘masses’ [whether they be underground or mainstream]. Well, often unrecognized, the 80s alternative , post-punk musicians (a.k.a. the New Wave scene) were more of a vibe about the exploitation of expressive creation. Foundationally, incorporating traditional instrumentation with synth/electronica. A puristic focus of musical exploration and expression. Seemingly, unconcerned with the attainment of infamy, gold records, and statuettes—the proof… the intermingling formation of influential artists and the ‘groups/(prolific) side projects’ by those artists. Video: Editing and Sound

  This example is a demonstration of video editing, 'soundtrack' selection and queuing, and motion graphics.   Developed from 32 individual clips, taken from 3 separate cameras for a total of 21 shots.
